Meeting of the Playing
Fields Committee of the
Present: Cllr Jean Evans
(Chairman), Cllr Theresa Bartliff,
Cllr Peter
Griffiths, Cllr Patricia Lott, Cllr Chris Reeve
and Cllr Bryan Smith.
1. APOLOGIES:
Apologies
were received from Cllr Caroline Mosley and Cllr John Butler.
Resolved: that the apologies be noted.
2. APPOINTMENT OF CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMITTEE:
It
was proposed by Cllr Peter Griffiths and seconded by
Cllr Patricia Lott that Cllr John Butler be nominated. It was proposed by Cllr Chris Reeve and
seconded by Cllr Bryan Smith that Cllr Jean Evans be nominated. Members then voted as follows:
Cllr John Butler 3 votes
Cllr Jean Evans 3 votes
The
outgoing Chairman then used a casting vote for Cllr Jean Evans.
Resolved: that Cllr Jean Evans be appointed Chairman of the Committee
for the ensuing year.
3. DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST:
No
declarations were received.
4. TO RECEIVE A REPORT ON PLAY AREAS:
The
Clerk reported on the play areas owned by the Parish Council. She told Members that the RoSPA
report recently carried out on the equipment at Wealstone Lane Play Area had
indicated that the slide which was installed two years ago had a head
entrapment risk.
Resolved: that the Clerk write to the contractor who installed the slide
to ask them to investigate the installation of the slide and act as follows:
a.
If the slide was installed correctly then provide written evidence of
this.
b.
If the slide was installed incorrectly then arrange for the necessary
work to be undertaken.
5. GROUNDS MAINTENANCE CONTRACT:
The
Chairman reported that this had been discussed by the Parish Council meeting
and that a resolution had been passed that the Chairman and the Clerk would
meet with the Officer of the City Council who was responsible for monitoring
the contract.
Resolved: that this matter be discussed at a future meeting when more
information was available.
6. CHEMISTRY PITS PLAY AREA:
The
Clerk reported that she had received a quotation for improvements to the
wildlife area for £4,482 and that there was already of sum of £1650 available
and that she had applied for a grant for £2,800 from the City Council.
Resolved: that the matter be discussed further at the next
meeting when information about the grant application was available.
7. RENEWAL
OF BENCHES AT WEALSTONE LANE PLAY AREA:
The Clerk reported that insurance
company had agreed that the double wooden bench could be replaced with two
single recycled plastic benches.
Resolved: that the Clerk order the two benches and
arrange installation.
